Keeping your head up and staying positive during long periods of separation from family and friends can be difficult. It is easy to get down. But we want to encourage you to keep your head up and stay positive because good mental health promotes good physical health.

Here are some things you can do every day to maintain your physical and mental health if you’re isolating at home.

Create A Routine

Change out of your pajamas, shower and make a to-do of all the things you want to achieve each day to create a sense of normality and productivity.

Break up your day — Find tasks to break up your day and, where possible, change your environment for different activities.

Move

Take care of your body — Eat healthily, get plenty of sleep and exercise daily. That could include conducting indoor workout classes, stretching and practicing meditation.

Easy to do at home:

  • Next time you watch a TV show, get up and do some squats during the commercials.

  • Do heel raises when you’re washing dishes.

  • Do side lunges when you’re throwing clothes in the dryer.

Stay Connected

Make the most of technology and stay in touch with colleagues, friends and family via phone calls, texts, social media and video conferencing.

Limit Media Intake

Stay informed about the situation via reliable sources, but limit your news and social media intake to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Focus on the Positives

Amplify good news stories and honor caregivers working tirelessly to resolve the situation.

Take One Day At A Time

Try not to project too far into the future. Remember that these are temporary measures and you are not alone.

Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness

  • This one can feel really hard right now. We’ve all probably felt at least one of the following emotions: scared, anxious, lonely, disappointed, heartbroken, or sad. Trying to remember what we’re grateful for is an important way to stay grounded.

  • Another way many people stay grounded and rooted in the present moment is through meditation.

  • Here is how to meditate in 9 simple steps and an app with guided meditations

What are you doing to keep your head up during these uncertain times? We would love your comments.
